Our Orchard: Our Village in the City

The Museum’s programme series “Musical Villages in the City – Living Musical Heritage in the Urban Environment” (2024), and its second thematic section dedicated to music and dance associations active in the neighbourhoods of Athens, continues with the Folklore Dance Association “Lyrites” and the event “Our Orchard: Our Village in the City…”

A few words about “Lyrites”

“Our Orchard, our Lyrites, is a garden where everyone has a place to ‘blossom’ alongside others through the shared experience of dance. It is an open and welcoming embrace for ‘children’ of all ages, from the youngest to the oldest. Here we learn to respect and appreciate dance, music, song and the culture they carry, as well as our fellow participants and the group itself—something that is of fundamental importance to us.”

“The Folklore Dance Association ‘Lyrites’ was founded in 2015 out of our own love, and that of our members, for tradition and the cultural heritage of our homeland. The Association is based in Ilioupoli and also maintains a branch in the Charavgi neighbourhood of Keratsini.”
