The project entitled “ Innovative actions for the digital promotion of the Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments “Fivos Anoyanakis”-Centre for Ethnomusicology is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the Priority Axis “Development of mechanisms to support entrepreneurship” of the Operational Program “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Innovation” and from national resources of the Public Investment Program. The Funding body is the Ministry of Culture. The project concerns the utilization of digital media and the use of emerging technologies for the preservation, promotion, and media dissemination of the Museum’s cultural repository.
More specifically, in the context of the project, the following work packages were implemented:
- Digitization and documentation
o 1750 objects from the Museum’s collection, mostly musical instruments and sound objects.
o 237 vinyl records
o 150 music CDs
o Musicological paper archive of Despina Mazarakis (approximately 3,000 sheets)
o Audio material of 100 records, 100 audio cassettes, 14 audio reels and 10 live historical events from the Museum’s sound archive
o 50 historical books of Byzantine music from the Panoutsos Library
- Documentation and collection management system for the Museum’s Collection and Archive. In the context of this work package, the open-source software Collective Access was installed and configured. The software was customized responding to the diverse elements that constitute the collection such as objects, archival material, and sound archive, but also taking into account the tangible and intangible nature of the collection.
- Design and development of the Museum’s online collection
- Conceptualization and production of a video documentary that presents the life of the donor of the collections and, essentially, the founder of the Museum Fivos Anoyanakis, as well as the way it is intertwined with the formation of the collection, the foundation and the history of the Museum.
- Website design and development for the online promotion of the Museum, its history and work of the Museum related to the music tradition of Greece. The website will promote further the Museum’s mission in safeguarding tangible and intangible cultural heritage and in distributing it through various activities addressed to adults as well as to younger audiences.
- Digital tour guide for smart mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) enabling interaction with the visitor beyond the physical boundaries of the visited space. The mobile app acts as a guide when visiting the collection and provides utmost importance to user experience, engagement and authenticity of the information presented.
