The Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments Centre for Ethnomusicology “Fivos Anoyanakis”

The Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments “Fivos Anoyanakis” – Centre for Ethnomusicology honours the memory of Nikos Saragoudas through a musical gathering bringing together friends, collaborators and loved ones.

Approximately one year after the passing of the distinguished musician, friends, students, relatives, admirers of his work, and both long-standing and younger collaborators will gather in the Museum courtyard for an event dedicated to his memory and artistic legacy. This tribute concert seeks to convey to the audience the spirit and atmosphere that characterised the musical gatherings held in his welcoming home.

Marking this commemorative evening, his beloved oud will henceforth be displayed in the Museum’s permanent exhibition, a space of great significance for the preservation of our musical heritage, as a shared treasure for all those who love music and his music in particular. This was the instrument with which Nikos Saragoudas made most of his recordings. The oud was donated to the Museum last December by his wife and companion in both life and art, Yasemi Saragouda.

The event forms part of the two-year programme series Musical Villages in the City (2024–2025), which seeks to highlight aspects of everyday musical life in the city and explore the ways in which musical heritage evolves and is transmitted within the urban environment through the activities of musical communities – the city’s “musical villages”.
