The Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments Centre for Ethnomusicology “Fivos Anoyanakis”

The Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments “Fivos Anoyanakis” – Centre for Ethnomusicology participates in the celebration of the European Heritage Days 2024, under the theme “Tracing Routes, Networks and Connections in Cultural Heritage”, with a two-day tribute on 27 and 28 September 2024 dedicated to the “Musicians’ Cafés” – places where musicians met, communicated, exchanged ideas and built professional and social networks, both among themselves and with their audiences.

On 27 September 2024, excerpts and previously unreleased material from the documentaries:

The Musicians’ Café (2012), documenting the last café of its kind in Athens, and Cafés of Lesvos (2024), from the documentary series Greek Cultural Practices, will be screened. The screenings will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker, musicians who experienced these spaces first-hand, and members of the audience.

On 28 September 2024, the music ensemble Maneritzides will take us on a journey to the legendary Musicians’ Café of Athens, recreating through music the atmosphere that once flourished in the gathering places of the city’s musical community.

This tribute forms part of the Museum’s two-year programme:
